:: Causes of Arthrosis

Knee arthritis typically affects patients over 50 years of age. It is more common in patients who are overweight. Weight loss tends to reduce the symptoms associated with knee arthritis. There is also a strong hereditary factor in development of this condition, i.e. knee arthritis tends to run in families. Other factors that can contribute to developing knee arthritis include injury to the knee, meniscus tears or ligament damage and fractures to the bone through the joint.

There are many possible causes of arthritis :
The abnormal distribution of pressure can lead to wearing of the cartilage.
  Bow-legged: more pressure on the inner aspect of the knee
Knock-knee: more pressure on the outer aspect of the knee
Age related.
  fracture —ligament injury —tear of the meniscus
  rheumatological conditions —infection —loss of blood supply to the bone
